Great things keep happening at the Small Plates Records HQ and we are pleased to be able to share a bit of news with you. We have recently signed Orlando based dream folk outfit Day Joy, whom we have been courting for the last several months.
Our good friends over at Pretty Much Amazing have been so kind as to premiere the first single off of Day Joy’s debut LP Go To Sleep, Mess. The album is set to drop later in the fall. Stay tuned, kids.

Day Joy - ‘Go To Sleep, Mess’
This one first appeared on the flip-side to Day Joy’s 7” single ‘New Ordinary’. A wandering dusk-time folk-abstraction, ’Go To Sleep, Mess’ is a weary juxtaposition to the lush dream-pop of its a-side (stream below.)
Day Joy started off as a duo, Michael Serrin and Peter Michael Perceval III, experimenting with folk-recordings on their front porch in Orlando. Since then they “moved into the living room where it has developed into the lush and layered recordings you hear now with the help of some modest recording equipment and a little bit of liquor”, Bandcamp-released their debut EP and expanded to a touring alt-country five-piece sharing bills with cool-scene Florida (Hundred Waters, Levek, Aircraft and Half Undressed.)
Their Animal Noise EP told four twisted tales, an intoxicating collection of woozy variations made from groggy waltzes, lacerating guitar lines and howling melodies with a deft application of tropical field recordings and illusory cymbal crescendos.
Day Joy have now signed to Small Plates Records, who will release their debut LP next month, of which ‘Go To Sleep, Mess’ is the title track. This really is one to anticipate.
